Let’s start this Black Friday with a breakfast that will put everyone in holiday mood. Here is a great way to add any design to your pancakes without having to spend $20 on pancake molds. All you need is a few squeeze bottles, food coloring and a little imagination. Here is how to do it:
Start by making about 3 cups of pancake batter. Don’t bother making your own, Krusteaz works great =):
Follow directions, then add a little more water (about 1/2 cup) to make the batter a bit more runny. Here is the consistency you’re looking for:
Pour a third of that batter in a separate bowl and add red food coloring:
Mix well and pour batter into squeeze bottles:
I am using 2 types of squirt bottles. Small bottles with small tips to “draw” and a large bottle with a wider opening to quickly fill blank areas with batter.
By now I am sure you realize that I use squeeze bottles for a lot of projects. At less than $1 a bottle, they make a great investment.
Now let’s make those pancakes. We will start with candy canes. Preheat a nonstick pan to medium low heat. Using your small squeeze bottle, draw the outer shape of a candy cane:
Draw red lines:
Fill the empty spots with plain batter using the large bottle:
Cook until bubbles start to pop and flip:
Ok the shape is a little off but I got better with practice. =)
Now let’s try stockings. First red:
Then white:
Fill the blanks:
And flip it:
For the final touch, let’s make pancake letters. All you have to do is write them backwards:
Done!
